Welcome to Week 27 of the Friday Fiction Writing Challenge! Here’s a complete list of all the posts so far. Feel free to join in.
This week’s random word is: Village
I’m a little bit late with today’s post. Turns out that today is Friday. Not the Monday/Tuesday I thought it was. All day. Sorry.
And, onto the post.
It’s the final challenge post of 2019! But, it’s not the end of the challenge, it’ll be back in 2020—woohoo
Before we get into the challenge, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Chris, and Gordon for taking part, again. You guys rock!
Here’s My Response to the Prompt
Theo pulled on his combat boots, not bothering to tie them, and slipped out of his tent. It was a chickenshit move sneaking to his Commanding Officer’s tent in the middle of the night, but he needed to talk to Jack privately about the others on their protection detail.
Light glowed from Jack’s tent. Good, he was up. Theo stood by the tent door and gave himself a shake. It’s now or never. “Boss, you decent?”
Silence.
He ducked his head into the tent. Jack wasn’t there. But, there were five glasses on the makeshift table. Enough for Jack and the other four on their detail. Maybe Jack had already dealt with the odd vibe the guys were giving off.
Too jacked to sleep, Theo rejoined the path and followed it down to the squat little houses that skirted the mountainside town. It was quiet. Like Death was waiting just around the corner.
Screams and the crack of gunfire echoed through the streets. Shit. Theo pulled the Glock from his holster. Hugging the walls of the houses, he made his way to the source of the gunfire.
He froze. This had to be a dream. A nightmare. Jack and the other four from Theo’s detail stood over the bodies of the people they’d been sent to protect.
Jack issued orders, and the others moved the bodies, piling them atop each other. “Torch them. I’ll deal with Village.”
Adrenaline flooded Theo’s body at the sound of his callsign.
I just want to say thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read, comment, and take part in the challenge this year. I appreciate your time and your kindness.
Wishing you all the very best of health, wealth, and happiness for 2020. Stay safe; stay awesome!

A bunny rabbit rubbing paws just doesn’t cut it does it 😀 😀

It could. Bunnies are notoriously evil. They’re the reason we’re raising a squirrel army.

MY children Bunny sat for a friend and it was the real life Beatrix Potter’s Fierce Bad Rabbit. More strength to the Squirrel Army

I know I am late to the party, but I could not leave the part of this story I heard when I read this left untold.
