Author Journal 3rd – 9th February 2022

Happy February, Everyone! A new month means new goals–sometimes old goals that are taking a lot longer to realise than hoped. *Cough cough* blocking scenes for Running the Asset.

Review 27th January to 2nd February 2022

Last week’s goals looked like this:

  1. Block Act I for future editing/rewrites
  2. Apply lessons on Universal Fantasies from 7 Figure Fiction to the scene level as I re-block.

How Did It Go?

I got half of Act I done.

At the start of my work week, I was a wee bit annoyed about the lack of real progress, but I eventually picked up a bit of steam. Though, something was niggling at me. I had something else I was supposed to be doing.

My planner showed nothing, the Kanban board had nothing aside from blocking, and then it hit me. They both had nothing because it was the end of the month, and I’d neglected to do my whole set-up for the new month, which was just around the corner.

A new month means a shed load of goal setting, Kanban board doing, and planner set-up-erring. I decided to set work aside for a couple of days to get February set up for success–yes, I was pep-talking the hell out of myself. Was I also avoiding my dreaded blocking? Maybe… probably. C’mon, I hate blocking and will fight it with the passion of a cat who will not give up that chicken you left defrosting unsupervised.

Okay, making this graphic was most likely procrastination.

In all honesty, I don’t think I would have completed last week’s goal, even without the month’s set-up. When you have to physically force yourself to stop cleaning or whatever procrastination you partake in, you know it isn’t going to happen.

I’m going into this week with a positive mindset. I can do this; I know I can. This is precisely how I used to block scenes for scripts (a task I loved), but because it’s for fiction, I freak out and get panicky about it not having enough detail, too much detail, or the wrong detail. But I will do it. I’ve got a good book and chocolate in my bribery arsenal.

This Week’s Writing Goals

  • Complete Act I’s blocking for future editing/rewrites
  • Block the first half of Act II (a) for future editing/rewrites
  • Apply lessons on Universal Fantasies from 7 Figure Fiction to the scene level as I re-block.

That’s it for today. Thanks for stopping by, and take care.
