I can think of no other word that can stir up the blood and motivate a Scots speaker more than today’s word.
Today’s Things in Scots is: Laldie.
There are two meanings for laldie, one fun, and the other not-so-fun. The not-so-fun meaning of laldie (also laldy) is a thrashing punishment or a scolding. And now, on to the definition, I think most associate with the word laldie. It means to do something with gusto and stacks of enthusiasm.
Here’s an example of laldie in use:
Git oot therr, hen, an gie it laldie!
In Inglis: Get out there, girl, and give it all you’ve got!
