Whew, it’s been a busy week! I’ve got the first sex scene in the bag, finally, and things are also heating up with the bad guy and his plans for death and destruction all in the name of power and profit.
Oh, and Jez and I cycled up a hill we weren’t qualified for. Or, so Strava (some cycling app) said when I looked it up after we got home from our picnic. Check out Jez’s post for more on the ride and some amazing photos of the view.
Review 30th September – 6th October 2021
My Writing Goals for Last Week
- Write 3000 words for Running The Asset. (Hit 47,624 total words)
- Block out the next four scenes
How Did I Do?
Word count wise, I exceeded my goal! I added a total of 3,767 new words to the manuscript–taking the total to 48,391 words. There was also a lot of behind the scenes writing that I needed to get down because of a few tweaks to the plot and character dynamics.
The scene blocking, I’m going to surprise absolutely no one here, was less than awesome. I blocked one scene out of the four I’d aimed to do, but I’m not too bothered by it. The reason I’m not going crazy about falling behind on blocking is down to doing the Scotstober challenge on Twitter (and here).
I hadn’t decided to Scotstober, though it was on my Kanban board just in case, until Friday the 1st. I’m so glad I made the decision to join the challenge, it’s been a joy to write in my mother tongue. And, it’s been a challenge writing in a language I, like most Scots, was shamed, ridiculed, and forced not to speak at school (*cough* colonialism *cough*). The real challenge has been in the writing of a language I’ve never been taught to write, having to consult a dictionary for how to spell words I know but have never written, and then there are the grammar rules…
Basically, for the remainder of October, scene blocking will happen when I need to do it. That’s making stomach twist, maybe I’ll try to slot in some scene blocking. Maybe a scene or two. Yeah, that feels better; now I can stop rocking in the corner.
This Week’s Goal
- Write 3000 words (taking me to 51,391)
- Block out the next two scenes
That’s it for today. Thanks for stopping by, and take care.
Susan
