Word Count 10th July 2021

I finished the first of two scenes in the meet cute sequence 🥳 There’s some clunky stuff in there, but some parts I love. The interaction between Elle and Adam just makes me want to run around going EEEEEEEEEE all day.

I added another 1294 new words to Running The Asset‘s manuscript! The story now sits at 8,727 words total.

Here’s a wee snippet of what’s got me going all gooey about this couple (rough and unedited):

He screwed a silencer onto the end of the gun and leaned forward in the chair, the unforgiving weapon cradled so casually in his hand like it was an extension of his being. “I’m of two minds as to whether I should remove the gag or not.” He scrubbed a hand over his jaw, then grimaced. “You look the gabby sort, and I don’t like to be interrupted.”

Elle shook her head, hoping he’d understand that she wouldn’t interrupt him. She got the sense that interrupting him would be a deadly mistake.

He tilted his head. “Are you saying you’ll behave?”

Not on your life, buddy. She bit her tongue and nodded.

“I’m going to remove the gag, but if I get the slightest hint that you’re going to scream or try to bite me again,” he tapped her knee with the end of the silencer, “I’ll give you something to scream about.”

Thanks for joining me on this adventure! Stay safe.

I spent the first part of my writing day blocking out the meet cute scene. Eeeeee! I love Adam and Elle together. Nothing gives me the happies like a good enemies-to-lovers story–throw in some weaponry and I’m like a kitten on caffeine. Anyway, the word count.

I added another 512 new words to Running The Asset‘s manuscript! The story now sits at 7,434 words total.

Thanks for joining me on this adventure! Stay safe.

Word Count 6th July 2021

1707 new words added to Running The Asset‘s manuscript! Today was one of those writing days you just wish for. I was so excited to write the scene I was working on–it was the inciting incident 😁–and it all just started to flow. The novel is now sitting at a total of 6922 words. Until Friday, unless I feel compelled to sneak in a couple of writing sprints before then.

Thanks for joining me on this adventure! Stay safe.

Word Count 5th July 2021

It’s been a bit of a high-pain day with the CRPS. I managed to add another 885 new words to Running The Asset‘s manuscript (MS) 🥳 That’s even with a major quandary over the past-participle of the Scots word skite. According to Modren Scots Grammar it’s skitit, which is exactly how I say it (skiyt-ih–the ih is to show the glottal stop for the final t). The MS is now sitting at a total of 5205 words.

Thanks for joining me on this adventure! Stay safe.

Word Count 4th July 2021

Man, I’m knackered! It’s been a major house clean day on top of getting the writing done. But that’s another 1362 new words added to Running The Asset‘s manuscript (MS)–no major deleting session today 🥳 The MS is now sitting at a total of 4320 words.

Word Count 3rd July 2021

Woohoo! I just added 1258 new words to Running The Asset. I had to do a bit of rewriting on yesterday’s work, but that’s to be expected. The manuscript is now sitting at 2958 words total. 🥳

Working the Asset — Update 20th August

I love update post day! It means that I’ve made progress on my WIP, and that I’m ever closer to my goal of releasing Working the Asset.

Since the last update (ten days ago), I’ve completed Pass #5 — four days ahead of schedule 😃🥳 — and have made a start on Pass #6. In fact, I’m 12% of the way in.

For those interested, Pass #6 is all about the characters. Whittling down the cast size, cementing introductions, ensuring that I’ve treated them with respect–even when I’ve got to make them suffer 😈–and a whole host of other character related tasks.

Thanks for reading, and for your support 😍

As always, stay safe and stay awesome!

Working the Asset — Update 10th August

It’s been a couple of weeks since I did an update post for Working the Asset.

Since the last update, I’ve blasted through Pass #4, the aim of which is to deepen audience delight with genre sequences, dramatic irony, and making sure that the story escalates well.

I’m now working on Pass #5. This pass takes care of the Fou Rs or as H. R. D’Costa (the creator of this outlining method) calls them The Four Workhorses. The four Rs are Realism, Relevance, Repetition, and Rhythm.

For the past few days I’ve been working through my stack of index cards—the continuously growing stack—looking for, and creating, setups and payoffs. And, tomorrow sees me tackling the fun/teeth-drying task of wrangling my subplots into shape.

And onwards!

Thanks for reading, and for your support 😍

As always, stay safe and stay awesome!

Working the Asset – Update 27 July

Time for a quick update on Working the Asset. My goal for July was to complete Pass #3 (Premise). Amazingly enough, I managed to achieve that on Saturday–a whole week ahead of what looked like a tight schedule!

So, this morning, I started work on Pass #4 (Deepening Audience Delight) and am 7% of the way through.

The story is starting to come alive. I love Elle and Adam and their enemies-to-lovers journey. And, I’m not ashamed to admit, I have a soft spot for Trevor, their Big Bad–he’s so much fun to work with.

Until next time, thanks for reading, and take care.
