Hiya ๐Ÿ‘‹

Hiya!

This is going to be a short but sweet update. (Iโ€™m actually on holiday for the next week and totally forgot to say so in the last post.)

I was in pre-holiday brain mode for the whole of last week. Well, thatโ€™s apart from when I injured my left arm on Saturday, leaving me with non-functional arms for the rest of the week. I used Whisper.ai to transcribe my notes ๐Ÿ˜

Hiya ๐Ÿ‘‹

Happy Thursday! At the start of the year, I had planned to post my Author Journal updates on Mondays to align with most people’s workweek. However, Monday is the end of my workweek, and I felt rushed to get the post out before the weekend.

So, after a few weeks of trying it out, I’ve decided to return to my original posting plan on Wednesdays. And yes, I know it’s Thursday today, but I had such a great weekend that I didn’t want to cut into it by thinking about work. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Now, let’s take a look at how last week went.

Hiya ๐Ÿ‘‹

Last week was one of those weeks where I felt like I wasnโ€™t making any real progress. I was getting work done, but it felt like wading through porridge thatโ€™s been left on the side for so long that you could set fence posts in it.

Have you ever had those weeks? I seem to get them a lot.

Anyway, last week I added my non-fiction writing goals into the mix. That could be what made things feel so slow and weird.

Hiya ๐Ÿ‘‹

I hope you all had a fantastic week because I certainly did! This week was one of the most productive weeks Iโ€™ve had in months, and I have yet another secret project to share with you.

Last week, I mentioned I was working on a series of blog posts about writing romantic suspense. What I didnโ€™t say was Iโ€™m also working on a non-fiction book series to help other romantic suspense writers.

When I say โ€œworking on,โ€ I mean Iโ€™ve mapped out an eight-book series thatโ€™s easy to digest, with each book being around 20-30K words.

Hiya, everyone!

I hope youโ€™re all doing well and had a great week. Last week was a wee bit of a mixed bag for me. I got sucked into another project and didnโ€™t manage to meet the goals I set for myself. But you know what? Iโ€™m not too upset about it.

Introducing a New Series for Romantic Suspense Writers

That project I got sucked into? Itโ€™s a new series of blog posts on writing romantic suspenseโ€ฆ with a side of action-adventure and spies. Iโ€™ll be sharing them with all of you starting in February. As you may have guessed, Iโ€™m a big fan of the genre, and Running the Asset is firmly in it ๐Ÿ˜.ย

Hiya, Everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Iโ€™m back! I canโ€™t tell you how excited I am to finally get back to working on Running the Asset. If you could see how big my smile is as I write this, then youโ€™dโ€ฆ Okay, youโ€™d probably think I was a crazed psycho with how wide my eyes are.

Hiya ๐Ÿ‘‹

It was only a matter of time before I hit a roadblock with editing. Mainly because editing is a mammoth task, and like with any job this big, it’s inevitable to stumble along the way. And stumble I did.

Hiya ๐Ÿ‘‹

Last week I shared that I set up a timetable to help me focus on my edits. I also mentioned that Iโ€™d probably not stick to it. My prediction was correct, but not to the extent Iโ€™d internally feared. Yay!

The timetable I set up is a fantasy. The fact I actually stuck to it 70-ish% of the time is shocking to me. The times I did stick to it, I saw a considerable increase in my focus on the job–and a boost in my overall productivity. ๐Ÿค“

Hiya!

Last week taught me a couple of things. First, editing for myself requires so much more discipline than when I did it for clients ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. And second, I need to take a serious look at my daily work schedule.
